Mattermost XMPP username and password

Background:

As a developer I want to use XMPP so that I can chat with my company on a lightweight smartphone client.

As a Thunderbird-Kid I want to use the integrated XMPP so that I have one place for everything.

As a human being I merge apps using protocolls, because I do not want to consider zillions of apps during my workflow.

What questions are you trying to answer?

How do I login in Mattermost using XMPP?

Are you looking to verify an existing hypothesis or uncover new issues you should be exploring?

This looks like an issue to me because Mattermost has this integrated but in my Chat-Settings I can not change the Mattermost password - so this is a real issue to me.

What is the backstory of this project and how does it impact the approach?

The workflow here is that employees don't see the zillion apps in the background. Just simple daily interfaces like Mail, Chat and Calendar-Client covering everything from todos over time tracking to vacation.

What do you already know about the areas you are exploring?

  • Mattermost has XMPP
  • GitLab somehow removed/replaced the user maintenance from Mattermost
  • Sometimes I am blind and forgot or overlooked a setting in this big dynamic settings interface.

What does success look like at the end of the project?

  • Setting a password for XMPP in Mattermost (GitLab is ok too, but less triumph)
