Hello, I’m Wei Meng
About me
-
Wei Meng is my given name. It is a two-character Chinese name that should always be said together. My family name is Lee. My name in Chinese characters (and pinyin) is 李偉明 (lǐ wěi míng) if you’re curious.
-
I live in 🇸🇬 Singapore (UTC+8) and am generally at work from 9am to 6pm local time (1am to 10am UTC).
-
I’ve been a journalist, full-stack developer, go-to-market strategy lead, and product manager. You can read more on my LinkedIn profile.
-
I love solving problems, particularly of the business and organisational kind. That’s also why I got into tech in the first place!
About my work at GitLab
-
My role at GitLab is Senior Manager, Support Engineering.
-
I oversee GitLab’s technical customer support functions in the Asia Pacific region (including Japan).
-
I joined GitLab in February 2019 as a Support Engineer. This is the longest I’ve been with any company!
What you must hold me accountable to
I aim to foster an environment where team members:
-
Seek the tools, abilities, knowledge, and understanding needed to perform their tasks well.
-
Create value for our customers, our team, and our business using their own judgment and initiative.
-
Learn and pass on lessons from our successes and our failures.
-
Help and lean on each other without worry of burdening others or being judged as lesser than.
-
Feel heard, valued and respected — even and especially when there are disagreements.
I believe that we’ll start work happy and end work fulfilled most days when we work in such an environment, and success will inevitably follow.
If you see me act or encourage behaviours that work against creating and maintaining this environment, please let me know immediately through a DM on Slack or set up a Zoom call to have a chat.
My interests
-
FDM 3D printing: I mainly do practical prints and have modeled in Fusion, Onshape and TinkerCAD. One of my models has been downloaded and printed thousands of times — it’s amazing to see others use something you’ve designed!
-
Video games: I play single-player and co-op games, and generally enjoy platformers or games with an element of base building. I used to be rank 13 in World of Warcraft before cross-realm battlegrounds, if that means anything to you!
I’ve also been really into mechanical keyboards and in-ear monitors in the past. I’m satisfied with what I have now, so I haven’t delved into these in a bit.
